Unbelievable but Necessary
I am sorry to anyone who follows or views my blog for not posting in a VERY long time.
Moments ago I went to SoundBites blog for my daily check up (love this blog)and read her recent post about an article written in Marie Claire by blogger Maura Kelly. In the article she expressed what she felt about a new CBC sitcom called "Mike and Molly" starring a couple, both overweight and dealing with relationships and their struggles. Confused, I googled the article, read it and could not believe she had the guts to write this. Then I realized that though her comments were hurtful, disrespectful and ignorant she just expressed what millions think about when they see "FAT" people.
There are hundreds of movements created by women all over the world daily to help motivate and educate women on their bodies and acceptance. Then to have Maura Kelly write "I think I’d be grossed out if I had to watch two characters with rolls and rolls of fat kissing each other … because I’d be grossed out if I had to watch them doing anything. To be brutally honest, even in real life, I find it aesthetically displeasing to watch a very, very fat person simply walk across a room — just like I’d find it distressing if I saw a very drunk person stumbling across a bar or a heroine addict slumping in a chair."
SHE JUST COMPARED A FAT PERSON TO A DRUNK!!!!!
The saddest part about this ordeal and article is that she is only one of hundreds, maybe thousands of ignorant and uneducated people that think being fat or overweight people are shameful and disgusting. Though this article may have reared up the "FAT" world it is something we must face, we need to, in times like these, stand strong and keep breaking the walls we have built up in fear of being criticized for our appearance.
For Maura Kelly I want to thank you because sometimes people forget that though they are trying to better the world one woman, man or child at a time they need to endure pain and face obstacles and criticism like you have offered. If the criticism and obstacles stop them from moving forward they were never strong enough to make a change.
